The Global Compact Network South Africa (GCNSA) has released its second Voluntary National Review (VNR), showing that decent work and economic growth remain the private sector’s top Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), followed by climate action and partnerships. Informed by input from 132 companies and over 300 individuals, the report highlights major shifts since 2019, including a sharp rise in climate action and zero hunger as priorities, driven by economic pressures, climate risks and food insecurity. At the handover of the VNR to Minister Maropene Ramokgopa, government reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating SDG progress and emphasised the private sector’s essential role. Contributors such as Absa and Anglo American noted the importance of sustainable finance, innovation and strong partnerships, while UN Resident Coordinator Nelson Muffuh stressed the need for an all-of-society effort to meet the 2030 Agenda.
