Scenario Planning Beyond the Covid-19 Pandemic

As we begin to recover from the COVID pandemic, much uncertainty remains. What could the future look like and what could, and should business do? To understand this, the Global Compact Network South Africa undertook a scenario planning exercise and has developed a planning tool for business.

In developing the COVID and Post-Covid-19 scenarios for SA, we considered the economic and socio-political landscapes as the two key drivers of risk. Each of the possible four scenarios gives us insight into events as they unfold over time, enabling us to identify key signals and the response to take for each scenario.

Voluntary National Review (VNR)

The Global Compact Network South Africa (GCNSA) is actively facilitating the private sector’s review of actions aimed at achieving the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This review serves as a significant contribution to South Africa’s National Report for the United Nations High-Level Political Forum in July 2024, marking the country’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR).

South African Private Sector Response to Covid-19

South Africa’s response to Covid-19 has been swift, integrated, and urgent as led by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Equally, companies in South Africa have heeded the President’s call and are supporting government interventions, pledging finances, and aiding workers, clients, and value chains. Global Compact Network South Africa showcases some examples of how companies in South Africa are responding to the Covid-19 crisis.
