The Global Compact Network South Africa (GCNSA) is set to launch Sustainability Leads, a new podcast and dialogue platform designed to spark bold conversations on sustainable business practices. The series, premiering on 1 September 2025, will bring together leading voices from across industries to share strategies, insights, and success stories that respond to the country’s evolving sustainability landscape.
The initiative comes at a time when South African companies are increasingly being judged on their response to pressing global and local challenges, from climate change to deepening inequality. According to Dr. Achieng Ojwang, Executive Director of GCNSA, businesses can no longer treat sustainability as a side issue.
“The launch of Sustainability Leads comes at a critical time. Businesses across South Africa are being called upon to respond to climate change, inequality and other systemic challenges with courage and foresight,” said Dr. Ojwang. “This platform will provide a space for leaders to share practical strategies and fresh perspectives on embedding sustainability into core business practice.”
The podcast will feature in-depth conversations with industry leaders such as Kgomotso Tshaka, head of legacy projects and social closure at AngloGold Ashanti, and Kathleen Ebersohn-Khuvutlu, head of sustainability at the Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa. In addition, listeners will hear perspectives from some of Africa’s most influential executives, including Sim Tshabalala (CEO, Standard Bank Group), Phuti Mahanyele-Dabengwa (CEO, Naspers), and Busi Mavuso (CEO, Business Leadership South Africa).
By exploring how top corporations are embedding sustainability into their strategies and decision-making, the platform seeks to position itself as South Africa’s leading space for sustainability-focused dialogue.
The launch aligns with GCNSA’s broader mission to advance the United Nations Global Compact principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that business growth goes hand-in-hand with resilience, equity, and environmental responsibility.
GCNSA has invited business leaders, innovators, and changemakers to tune in, share the podcast within their networks, and add their voices to the growing conversation on building a sustainable economy for South Africa and beyond.
